What we should know about positive eating?If you’re not a fan of diets, the positive eating system is for you. The rules are easy: don’t starve, don’t eat too much, eat real food instead of food supplements and vitamins, cook and enjoy the meals.

At the beginning of this eating system is British nutritionists John Yudkin. In 1950, he warned that the urban men from the western world don’t have normal eating, because there was excess sugar and white flour in their menu. This diet causes irreparable damage to the cardiovascular system, resulting in obesity and diabetes, and reduced life expectancy.

At the beginning of the XXI century, food expert Michael Polanyi notes that there is a real catastrophe – the menu of modern man actually lacks of natural products that have not undergone processing technology. People live by industrial, chemical processed meats, bread, sugar and their substitutes.

Residents of big cities have forgotten the skills of their ancestors- to instinctively distinguish the healthy from the junk food. Doctors and scientists distinguish harmful from beneficial substances in products (vitamins, cholesterol, fatty acids, etc.), they study the relationship between these components, and we mechanically follow their recommendations. Scientific evidences, however, often are based on assumptions and lead to inconsistent and often not really disinte-rested conclusions.

Dietology have also now become an industry and that’s why we can’t totally trust it. In response to these developments, positive eating system offers a refuse to these pseudo-scientific diets and return to the real food.

Positive eating recommends to ignore scientific terms, not to count calories, but simply to eat with pleasure. Not to exclude, but rather to include in your menu more seasonal products. Forget about dry soups, milk with a very long shelf life, enriched, non-fat and other “healthy” products.

Shop not from big food companies, from  the small markets. Main place in your menu must for plant food. Take vegetables as a main meal and meat as a side dish – it’s enough to get vitamin B12 – the main wealth contained in meat. Whenever possible, let your choice to be composed of natural, wild products – from fish to berries and nettles. Eat little and cook often- these are the basic principles.

Positive eating teaches us to distinguish real food and get pleasure from it. An additional plus of this menu is that it allows losing the overweight – light plant foods as opposed to processed foods satisfies long and contains valuable antioxidants. Vice versa, the greater part of the meat occupies the menu, the greater the risk of cardiovascular and other diseases is. Of course, it is best if the meat is of home-bred animals that are eating more diverse.

Give up from the easily digestible carbohydrates – bread, pasta, rice cakes. If you see on the label more than five substances that you have no idea what they are,  do not buy the product. This does not mean necessarily that it is harmful, but it is evidence of a serious industrial processing.

Try to eat in a good company. Do not be tempted to eat something unhealthy between the meals. At this regime you can stick your whole life. During the first few weeks probably you will lose 4-6 kg, then 1 kg per week until you reach the normal healthy weight.

The basis of positive eating is extracting the maximum enjoyment of the products and their consumption. So supporters of this regime are often fans of slow eating.  Movement for slow eating was born in the 80s of XX century in Italy and quickly gained followers in the whole world. They definitely don’t respect fast food restaurants not only because of the low quality of the food but also because the very idea of ​​eating so fast.

On the table should be placed only (or mostly) ecologically clean food – mostly fruits and vegetables from local producers. When you are on the table, you must always be in a good mood, it is scientifically proven that negative emotions hinder the process of digestion.

Products must undergo at least a minimum of heat treatment. We should eat only when we have enough time to enjoy our favorite dishes. Small snacks between meals are not loaded with energy, but only put in the body more food than it needs – due to this, we gradually accumulate excess weight and create a habit of sudden bouts of hunger.

According to supporters of positive and slow eating, this is the natural diet of our ancestors who did not know what the word “stress” is. Their motive is that the pseudo-scientific diets are mostly ineffective – food “decomposed” of proteins, fats and carbohydrates, stops being attractive. And without delicious food, you can’t feel good in your body.

Non-fat products do not give a sense of satiety, and often contain more preservatives and other harmful substances than the others.
